OMAN OIL MARKETING COMPANY ALLOCATES SITES FOR 10 MILLION TREES INITIATIVE

Strengthening its commitment to sustainability, Oman Oil Marketing Company (OOMCO) has joined the national initiative to plant 10 million trees in 10 years. The fuel marketing company has allocated several of its service stations to the scheme, which was inaugurated by the Environment Authority (EA) and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) in 2020 during Oman Environment Day 8th January in order to preserve wild plants, combat desertification and increase green areas in the Sultanate. As part of its active Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, OOMCO continues to champion charitable, educational, and environmental causes that add value to the community.

Dr. Thuraya Said Al Sariri, Assistant Director General of Nature at the Environment Authority said, “This initiative aims to combat the deterioration of the Sultanate’s natural flora by providing an ideal environment for local species that are threatened with extinction or those that are under severe pressure through over grazing, development, climate change, and many other reasons. Replanting wild trees and mangroves in natural areas will contribute to improving the soil, reducing land degradation, and restoring the environment to what it was, in addition to creating job opportunities through ecotourism, natural parks and agriculture. So far, since January 2020, we have been able to plant around 180,000 trees in different governances of Oman in cooperation with different governmental and private sectors and with the support of Oman Oil Marketing Company and other partners, we are well on track to achieve our goal.”

Mohamed Hassan Al Mujaini HSEQ-T and SD Senior Manager at Oman Oil Marketing Company, said, “As a leader in the fuel marketing sector, we are always committed to supporting the Sultanate’s long-term sustainability strategies and fostering a green and eco-friendly culture. We’re delighted to be part of the 10 Million Trees initiative, and play our role in the beautification and preservation of our precious natural resources, as well as creating wider economic benefits for local communities.”
