– Health, Safety and Environmental Management (HSEM) students at Muscat\'s International College of Engineering and Management attended a one-day educational workshop hosted by Oman Oil Marketing Company (omanoil). Led by the company\'s health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) Champions, the marketing depot site visit and lecture sessions on safe operations presented students with tangible, first-hand practices that have been cultivated through the company\'s years of tried-and-tested policies.
"The student visit represents one of many initiatives we have introduced to encourage a vigilant and holistic HSSE culture. It is an opportunity to further ingrain the importance of safety among the future generation who are already championing the cause through their choice in educational program," said Faisal Al-Shanfari, General Manager of Operations, Engineering and HSSE.
He added, "Investments in innovation, training, equipment and technology may define best practices, but its improvement begins and ends with our understanding and appreciation for its principle. We are learning from these young students just as much as we are transferring our knowledge to them. Our mindset is being challenged with their renewed perspectives, and we are encouraging collaborative ideas to build a developing nation on HSSE foundations."
Muscat\'s International College of Engineering and Management offers students a Bachelor of Science degree in HSEM, accredited by the United Kingdom\'s University of Central Lancashire. Approved by the Ministry of Higher Education Oman, the course was established in response to the country\'s growing demand to introduce secure and sustainable business practices, first and foremost with education.
