omanoil and bankmuscat launch basmarewards mass redemption campaign

The Sultanate’s first chip based multi-partner rewards program is evolving with consumer shopping habits and trends where basma cardholders can now redeem points at any of the seventeen merchant partners across the Sultanate. Established by Oman Oil Marketing Company (omanoil) and BankMuscat in association with Lulu Hypermarket, the expansion of the loyalty program represents one of the many developments planned for the year as basma continues to enjoy growth, market penetration and popularity, reaffirming its position as a catalyst for building successful partnerships with local merchants.

Cardholders can now enjoy the benefits of redeeming points on site at all merchant partners to treat themselves with discounts, merchandise or services by making full or partial payments. Points will be automatically deducted with an option to complete the transaction with cash payment. Previously, points could only be collected at the various merchants and redeemed at omanoil filling stations and Lulu Hypermarkets.

As part of the Program’s expansion, basma has introduced an inventive promotion and is offering customers across the Sultanate the opportunity to win a total of 5 million basma points, running from October 9th to December 9th 2010. Customers can easily participate by redeeming points and automatically enter the draw at any of the Program’s 17 outlets. The first draw is scheduled for November 15th 2010, where two winners stand the chance to win 1 million basma points each. The final draw is scheduled for December 15th 2010, of which three additional winners will also be awarded one million basma points each. In the last five years, the basmaRewards program has advanced as a pioneering rewards platform with a growing number of cardholders and partners, and the Program is expanding with an impressive rewards catalog that is now not restricted to fuel and consumer goods only.

With instant rewards, exciting promotions and wide range of shopping privileges through exclusive partner benefits, the loyalty program is an innovative rewards program that enables cardholders to ‘save as they spend’ by accumulating basmaPoints with every Omani Rial spent at any of the partner outlets irrespective of the mode of payment. Cardholder making payments using BankMuscat credit cards can also earn additional reward points from BankMuscat, over and above the points issued by the participating outlets.

With the age of e-payments ushering in a ‘cashless society’ and increased reliance on smart cards, basmaCard is easy to use, earn, redeem, calculate and track, making it an in-demand loyalty scheme that has now encompassed a wide array of sectors including automotive, grooming, hospitality, telecommunications, healthcare, fashion and beauty, fragrance, jewelry and electronics amongst other service providers.

As an added functionality, basma can be utilized as a pre-paid fuel card across any of omanoil’s national network of 113 service stations, allowing customers to budget fuel expenditure whilst earning basmaPoints. Each card has a secure Personal Identification Number (PIN) to prevent unauthorized use in case it is lost or stolen.
