Omanoil
partners with Oman
Green
Awards to promote
eco-consciousness and environmentally
sustainable future
Muscat,
June 2010
Oman Oil Marketing Company’s commitment
to environmental protection was emphasized at
the recently held Oman Green Awards, the
country’s first environmental initiative of its
kind by United Media Services in association
with the Department of Environment and
Occupational Health of the Ministry of Health,
Muscat Municipality, Ministry of Environment and
Climate Affairs (MECA) and the Environment
Society of Oman (ESO). The Oman Green Awards
aims to increase awareness and motivate
behavioral change for the preservation of the
environment.
As part of its active participation, Sheikh
Salim bin Abdullah Al Rawas, Chairman of Oman
Oil Marketing Company (omanoil) awarded the
Green Research Awards.
A partner of “Green Oman” to inspire a better
tomorrow, omanoil diligently operates with a
fundamental belief in educating and encouraging
individuals to become role models of tomorrow by
ensuring environmentally friendly practices are
embraced both inside and outside the workplace.
The support of the initiative comes as a natural
extension of the Company’s philosophy to support
green causes.
“Building a sustainable future for younger
generations is an integral part of our Company
ethos where eco-conscious thinking is deeply
rooted in all activities. As a one hundred
percent Omani company, it is our responsibility
to minimize the impact on the environment by
adopting sound planning strategies and
state-of-the-art technology that can form an
important part of the solution to climate change
issues,” Eng. Faisal Al Shanfari expressed
General Manager of Operations, Engineering and
Health, Safety, Security and Environment at
omanoil.
He added, “We are committed to finding new ways
of reducing the Company’s impact on the planet
and increasing our competitiveness in the market
place while inspiring others to do their part in
diminishing the carbon footprint and respecting
Mother Earth.”
Since its inception, omanoil has pioneered HSSE
in the oil and gas sector by implementing a
number of “green” measures. All road tankers are
made of aluminum rather than steel thereby
minimizing carbon emissions and reducing fuel
consumption. Recycling systems are also used at
all 14 car wash facilities across the Sultanate.
The Company has recently improved construction
specifications for forecourt flooring to include
concrete hard stands around pump islands and is
considered a leader in implementing non-metallic
double skin pipes and double skin retail
underground tanks with leak detection system in
all filling stations as a preventative measure
against pollution. Moreover, omanoil actively
participates in air quality monitoring at the
Mina Al Fahal Area along with all players in the
area in collaboration with MECA.
The Company’s initiatives are not limited to
external activities but rather begin internally
by promoting an environmentally friendly culture
at its Head Office. Recycling boxes in all
offices have recently been installed and
quarterly newsletters are disseminated
electronically to avoid unnecessary use of
papers.
In recognition of its visionary approach,
omanoil received top honors as the best
distributor in the Middle East and North Africa
region upholding the highest Health, Safety and
Environment (HSE) standards by British
Petroleum.
