Oman Oil Staff Recognised
For Averting Fire Incident

Three employees at one of Oman Oil
Marketing Company’s (OOMCO) fuel retail outlets,
the omanoil Filling Station in Mussanna,
prevented what could have been a major fire
accident last week said a spokesperson from
OOMCO.
The quick-thinking teamwork of Filling Station
Manager, Kassim Ahmed and fellow colleagues
Hilal Al Shabiby and Hassan P averted the
incident when a pick-up truck on the omanoil
filling station forecourt caught on fire.
The vehicle in question pulled onto the
forecourt alongside the fuel pumps and unbeknown
to the driver, the engine had overheated and
caught alight. Keen eyed staffed spotted smoke
emerging from under the vehicle bonnet and
alerted the perplexed driver.
Following the correct HSE (Health Safety and
Environment) procedures the omanoil Filling
Station staff pushed the vehicle clear of the
pumps and speedily extinguished the fire using
the fire extinguishers provided at all of the
omanoil Filling Stations.
The sharp action by the filling station staff
has been recognised with cash spot bonuses
awarded by the OOMCO Retail Business Manager,
Salim Shibiby.
“Fire is the greatest risk at a Filling Station,
hence why we make a significant investment each
year on staff training adhering to the latest
international HSE standards and best practice”
said Paul Phillips, OOMCO Retail Manager.
Thankfully incidents such as these are rare, but
when they do happen it’s reassuring to know that
the employees know how to react and to deal with
the situation in a calm and efficient manner.
Adding to this Salim Shabibiy said, “It’s
important for OOMCO to recognise actions such as
these. The safety of the general public and
OOMCO employees are paramount and we are proud
to have members of the OOMCO team who can think
on their feet and endorse this value.”
OOMCO, as the only 100% Omani fuels marketing
company wish to take this opportunity in
reminding all motorists that there are 4 basic
fire prevention rules for Filling Stations:-
1. No smoking on the forecourt
2. Turn off vehicle engine whilst re-fuelling
3. Do not use GSMs (due to the risk of static
causing sparks)
4. No fuel filling in unauthorised containers
(due to the risk of static causing sparks)
