OOMCO Sponsors Father and
Daughter duo to Cycle around the World

Oman Oil Marketing
Company SAOG (OOMCO) is sponsoring Abdulghani
Bin Khamis Al Zadjali and his teenage daughter
Aziza Al Zadjali to cycle around the world.
This is the first time sixteen year old Aziza Al
Zajali will have taken part in such a trip. A
keen cyclist like her father, Aziza will no
doubt find the trip an education from start to
finish experiencing first hand the physical
challenges of the tour and an education in
international cultures as they travel through
the different countries.
Explaining why OOMCO are sponsoring the father
and daughter duo, Hisham Al Alawi said, “We’re
fortunate to be in a position where we are able
to support local initiatives like these. By
assisting Aziza and Abdulghani, we hope to help
them achieve their goal in the completion of
this trip; in turn through their actions in
embarking on this journey, citizens outside of
Oman may have an opportunity to learn a little
about our country – a sort of cultural
exchange.”
Having already commenced the cycle ride across
some of the regions of the Sultanate, Abdulghani
and daughter Aziza will set about the start of
their world tour at the beginning of April. The
first international destination to visit on this
seven month journey will be the United States of
America, where the cyclists will spend one month
before flying to South East Asia where they will
spend 6 weeks traveling overland through
Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia,
sailing to Brunei to complete the this
particular leg of the journey.
Following South East Asia the pair will jet over
to the Far East cycling for a month throughout
Japan and finally traveling by air to Australia
for a month before returning to Oman via the
United Arab Emirates. The cyclists are scheduled
to return to Oman by mid November of this year.
Keen to support worthwhile local projects,
particularly ones involving the youth of Oman,
OOMCO recently sponsored the national Contest
for Utilization of Environmental Materials a
project run by the Ministry of Regional
Municipalities, Environment and Water Resources
to help raise public awareness of the issues
associated with waste and its potential impact
on the environment. Participants were invited to
make pieces of art using only waste materials,
with prizes given to the top 25 based on
criterion from highest standard and diversity of
material used. |
